Working-Capital Gap Guide.

Once you can see the squeezes and know your cushion, decide what to actually do: smooth the timing where you can, and bridge the gap honestly where you cannot, without ever raiding money that is not yours.

In Manage Cash Flow, after you have the forecast and your months-of-cash number, whenever a real squeeze is ahead.

First, the two questions that route you out

Is the money genuinely coming, just not yet here? If no, this is not a timing gap, it is a shortfall: route to the funding work and the deficit question, and stop here. Would closing the gap require spending money given for a specific purpose? If yes, stop. That is a breach, not a bridge: route to Master Restricted and Unrestricted Funds and a nonprofit accountant.

Smooth what you control

Bridge an honest gap, if one remains

A bridge buys weeks. It is not income, and it is not a fix for a gap that is really a shortfall. Write down how it gets repaid, so a timing tool does not quietly become a debt problem. Uses the Cash-Flow Forecast and the Months-of-Cash Calculator.
