Prepare a volunteer to do their actual role well, proportional to the role, because willing but unprepared volunteers do the work poorly and feel bad about it.

For each role, plan the training

What they need to know and be able to do

How they will learn it: shown, then supervised, then on their own

How much training the role honestly needs, no more, no less

For roles with vulnerable people, the safe-practices training that sits alongside the screening obligation

Keep training proportional. A few-hours-a-week volunteer does not need a corporate curriculum, but every volunteer needs enough to do the work well and safely. Let them try it with support before they are alone.
